Goldsboro City Councilman Antonio Williams feels there are more important things to focus on than the traffic infractions he faces and his additional legal trouble that emerged this week after he was charged with not showing up for court.

Williams has a new court date of September 16 to deal with two charges: Driving While License Revoked and Failure to Burn Headlamps. The city councilman pointed out the new court date was established after he went to the Magistrate’s Office on his own to straighten out the problem. Williams said, “I went to do a check at the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and it was showing an unresolved issue. Then on my own I went to the Wayne County Clerk of Courts Office and they told me I needed to go to the Magistrates Office. So I was not arrested as it appears.”

In reference to the charge of Driving While License Revoked Williams said he gave a valid driver’s license to the law enforcement officer during the traffic stop adding it was from New York State. That was presented after the officer told Williams his North Carolina license had been suspended. Williams said, “He was rude, he would not let me show him my paperwork, so I later contacted his superiors and it was my understanding the problem was solved.”

In a message to the citizens of Goldsboro District One Williams said, “I committed to serving the people of my district. A traffic infraction can affect anyone. A traffic infraction is not a major crime. The focus needs to be on more important issues like crime in the city and the lack of jobs.”
