A registered sex offender accused of attacking a local woman in need of help is now in the Wayne County Jail.
Aaron Blake Mills, 30, who lives in the 100 block of Hooks Glen Drive is charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Forcible Rape and Kidnapping.
The woman Mills is accused of attacking told detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office that she was walking along NC Highway 581 near Nor-Am Road Saturday morning, August 20, when the suspect stopped and offered assistance. She told authorities he let her use his phone to call someone who would come and get her. The accused assailant who gave a false name then took the victim to a nearby remote area. He is accused of physically assaulting the woman and attempting to sexually assault her. Investigators say somehow the victim managed to talk the suspect out of the sexual act. The offender then released the woman and left the area. She told authorities she did not know her attacker.
Mills was taken to the Wayne County Detention Center where secured bond was set at $300,000.
